Quality principles

The quality principles for digital learning resources relate to the design and use of digital learning resources to support effective learning and teaching. They are applicable to a range of ages and contexts, including the schools and post-16 sectors.

Download the quality principles for digital learning resources document in Word (160KB) or PDF (126KB).

To understand the rationale, purpose and intended impact of the quality principles please read the introduction.

The first of the two groups of quality principles are described as core pedagogic principles.

The second group consists of quality principles on aspects of the design and interoperability of digital learning resources and are referred to as core design principles.

The order in which they are presented is not an indication of hierarchy.

The quality principles are not intended to be followed as a checklist. Becta will use them as a basis for the development of supporting materials for different audiences and purposes. These materials will support developers in producing high-quality digital learning resources and help practitioners and managers to make more informed decisions about digital learning resources.
